Seth Surmises – Mezzanine

Massive Attack: Mezzanine

Preconceptions: Is this the House M.D. band or the Bones one? It’s FOX primetime theme music.

After listening: I feel like I’ve taken all of House’s Vicodin. No wonder I fast forward through opening credits.

Favorite track: I would say the shortest track, but somehow Exchange seemed much longer than its 4+ minutes. Horace Andy’s vocals on (Exchange) and Man Next Door make them the most listenable. It sounds a bit like white-guy dub, probably because that’s exactly what it is.
Least Favorite: On an album full of nearly identical droning bullshit, Dissolved Girl stands out by being absolutely full-on god awful. Like sub-Bjork awful.

Overall: All this fit on a 78 minute CD? It seems like I started listening to it in February. Is the band name irony or straight up fraud? At no point do they show enough energy to get off the chesterfield and attack anything. Best suited for heavy opium users or slow-motion television action montages.

Rating: 2.0 (It’s boring overproduced bullshit, but competently overproduced bullshit.)
