Riss’s Ramblings – All Mod Cons

The Jam: All Mod ConsPreconceived Notions:  I’ve heard of Paul Weller, but haven’t given his solo stuff much of a listen.  The same thing goes for The Jam.  I guess I’m expecting something similar to Madness, if I have to say I have a notion.  I suppose I could say that I don’t have any expectations, but that would make it sound like I’m not quick to make judgments, but that’s a lie.  I’m a judgment fiend.

While Listening:
David Watts reminds me a whole lot of “Let’s Spend the Night Together” and I knew I had heard it somewhere before, you cover of the Kinks!  Forgive me, I’m still recovering from jet lag.  It’s weird that the original and the Rolling Stones single came out the same year.  I swear, the music sounds so similar.

Billy Hunt-seems like an ode to David Watts.  What’s with all this naming a person and making their name the chorus?

It’s Too Bad-not so bad

After Listening: None of these stood out to the point that I’d remember them.  If I was just hearing these in passing, I wouldn’t have a strong reaction against, them, but unfortunately, I wouldn’t have a strong reaction period.  The David Watts and Billy Hunt songs seem weirdly similar and the album as a whole, isn’t something I feel like I want to listen to a lot.

Favorite Track: English Rose, It’s Too Bad

Raised in the Midwest, Marissa feels that she has absolutely no good defense for liking what she likes or nominating what she nominates. She likes it that way. With a preference for the indie music scene, there was a time before (alright a rough adolescence) filled with oldies, then country, then pop. She was an unabashed slave to Nsync, and boy bands in general, but not Backstreet Boys, god no! But that has passed. Marissa is passionate about music and about caring about music (and caring about things in general). She considers herself a stereotype, a cliche and a conundrum, all at the same time. When not listening to music Marissa enjoys watching movies, that she will sometimes review on her blog. She is an avid reader and a seasoned podcaster.
