Seth Surmises -What’s Going On?

Preconceptions: I believe this is my pick. I haven’t heard the whole album since I owned a working turntable, and the used album I got at goodwill has seen better days.

After listening: The politics and strings seem a bit dated in some parts. It doesn’t have my favorite Marvin Gaye songs on it. Still good, though.

Faves: What’s Going On, Mercy Mercy Me  The classics are called that for a reason.

Least Faves: Flying High (in the Friendly sky) seems all prelude. I keep waiting for it to start.

Overall: 4.0

Undeniably dated on some tracks, but timeless on the standouts. Some modern R&B artists are still ripping off this album (I’m looking at you, John Legend), but R&B would be better if they all were. I won’t buy the whole album again, but I’ll drop a few bucks on my favorite tracks.
