The Kinks were always the chameleon of the British Invasion, changing sound and direction from album to album. Something Else is a transitional album between the Kinks early songs inventing the power chord and the late 60s & 70s concept albums like Village Green Preservation Society, Lola vs Powerman & the Money-Go-Round, and Schoolboys In Disgrace. Stand out tracks include Waterloo Sunset, a celebration of London and two lovers as seen from the point of view of a contented shut-in, and David Watts, a dark & comic look at schoolyard envy.
