|Preconceived Notions: None really, besides the fact that “they” (I’m not even certain if it’s a whole band or just one guy who insists on being called by a whole band name like Dashboard Confessional) seem to be going after some David Bowie-esque feel and that Josh is a big fan. There is also something about the name of this album that reminds me of the movie Legend.
After Listening: This is definitely something that could be in my wheelhouse. Some of the lyrics are completely over the top, but the choruses and hooks are easy enough to grasp that it was a nice album to just put on and work through. I’m still never certain whether it’s a good thing or a bad thing to NOT be distracted by the music, but I suppose it’s never really a bad thing when you’re ok just listening to an album. Any problems I had with the lyrics being too hipster, the music saved it every time. There are influences heard from different eras, but they’re mixed in such a way that it does feel new, or maybe just new to me. Either way, I’d listen (and probably will today) again.
Favorite Track: Gronlandic Edit-I like the bass line and the harmonies and how snarky he says “bitches”.
Least Favorite Track: Bunny Ain’t No Kind of Rider I felt kind of bad for Eva…it makes me hope I have some kind of soul power so I don’t end up like her.
